As you can probably guess, this is a good thing. Our brains need to be able to distinguish between what we love and what we need.
The problem is that self esteem is a two-way street. It’s not the same as actual self-worth. The two are not the same. Self-esteem is a feeling of self-worth, and the word implies that self-esteem is real. However, it is not based on reality. Self-esteem is based on what we think we deserve, rather than what we think we are.
So what is self-esteem? It is the inner feeling of “I deserve to be happy” and is thus, not just the feeling of “I am good,” but also the feeling of “I am worthy of being happy.” The idea is that your own worth, and your own self-worth, are based on what you believe you deserve. So if a person believes their worth is based on their achievements they will be depressed.

If you need to feel valued in order to feel worthy of your own self-esteem, then you don’t need to work to achieve it. Its funny that you would say this, because I think that self-esteem comes from a feeling of worth. If you feel like your worth is derived from what you achieve in your life, then you will never feel worthy. That would mean that you would be content with life and nothing else. That would mean that you have nothing more to give to the world or yourself.
