macro space
The new world of spatial analysis is being created and used in the workplace, but it’s taking on a new name, macro space. The term was coined by Marshall McLuhan, a Canadian philosopher, futurist, and sociologist who helped create the “global village”. Macro space is the new frontier of what it means to be in the digital age.

Macro space is the new frontier of what it means to be in the digital age. Like the rest of the term, it’s a bit confusing, but I’ve been trying to explain what it means to me and it’s come up with this concept, which I call “the macro dimension of life.” I think it’s important to pay attention to when we’re in macro space because it can be a very dangerous place.
When I was in macro space my life was just a blur of data, images, and sounds. Every morning I woke up and had to make sure that the world was still a safe place for my family, friends, and my self. Being in the macro space was dangerous because I had very little control over the data that entered into my brain. I was constantly bombarded with images and sounds, and it was easy to forget that I was in the middle of the digital universe.
Macro space is the place where you can’t really shut off any of the information or the sensory input you’re receiving. You have to constantly go and check in with other people and know what’s going on. Even if you didn’t know why you’re in micro, macro space is where you go to get on the internet. There’s a reason that the internet is so important to so many people all over the world. It’s a way for us to communicate.
As a very young child, I remember getting sent to camp (my parent’s camp) to learn how to be a soldier. I spent my time learning to be a soldier, then my parents took me to the beach and taught me to surf. I never forgot the day that I first went surfing. I kept a little file where I kept my surfing pics, and one day I went to my file and there was a picture of me surfing.
And that was it, the first picture my brain remembered of my life. It took a bit to get into the habit of having a picture of myself surfacing in my mind constantly. But eventually, it became second nature. I don’t know any other way to describe how much more I’ve learned about myself over the past few years, but it’s a good thing.
The concept of the “macro space” metaphor is very popular in design circles, so it would actually have the same effect. For a while I thought it was just an idea. Since it was supposed to be a place for people to be creative, no matter what, until I realized that it was simply a small section of space that was just a giant piece of the macro space.
This idea has been around for a while, but nothing really came along until that moment when the first-person-only 3D animated space battle was released. That was really a great experience for me.
